Baidu annual global event in Beijing, China's leading search engine, Baidu announced it will offer its own Android-based mobile operating system, called Baidu Yi "Yi" is translated as "Easy". Mobile operating system is based on Google's Android operating system, but directly connected to the service of Baidu, map services, such as Baidu, eReader, location-savvy business directory, and Ting, legal music service Baidu. The decision comes shortly after Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba announced that it launched its own mobile operating system called Aliyun with built-in support services Alibaba. Aliyun is based on Linux, but running Android applications.

Baidu has a strong presence on Android devices in China, with some industry estimates, Baidu search of 75 to 80 percent of all Android devices sold in the country. After Google pulled out of the search market in the wake of Chinese cyber-attacks and the continuing demands for censorship, Baidu took the opportunity: the company now has about 80 percent market share of Chinese research. Baidu claims about 200 million registered users.

Some industry observers have wondered why, with such a strong presence of Android and research in China, Baidu feel the need to run your own operating system. The answer is probably that Baidu has to create an ecosystem of customers and users will not only depend on the services of a broadband, rather than research. Yi Baidu is primarily a platform that offers an integrated approach, the full experience of Baidu, the same way a pure Android smartphone now represents a pure experience of Google, not overlapping, bloatware, and redesigned interfaces imposed by developers and the combined companies. Of course, many phones Baidu search and other services, but apparently the company expects that mobile users who want to buy a first class experience Baidu
