According to an Aug. 31, 2012 report by the Christian Post, the website that started the rumor claimed the actor had lost control of his snowboard in Switzerland and struck a tree. The elaborate hoax even was as far as claiming that he was airlifted to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The website
that posted the false story later placed a disclaimer on the page stating that the story was for entertainment purposes:
"This story is 100% fake! This is an entertainment website, and this is a totally fake article based on zero truth and is a complete work of fiction for entertainment purposes."
Eddie Murphy's fans, friends and family no doubt disagree that the heartless hoax was entertaining.
Eddie Murphy has been in the news lately for another reason unrelated to erroneous reports of his untimely demise. He has been shopping a new television series to various networks. The drama will be based on his hit 1984 movie "Beverly Hills Cop." Murphy plans to appear in the pilot episode about Axel Foley's son. He will also reprise his role as Foley in guest appearances throughout the episode.
